LTH AEROSOLS Seminar: Wildfire emissions, atmospheric transformation, climate impacts and health

Wildfire
From: 2026-11-05 15:00 to 16:00 Seminar

In this seminar, Professor Hugh Coe from the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Manchester, will talk about wildfire emissions, atmospheric transformation, climate impacts and health.

Wildfires are an important source of aerosol particles into the atmosphere and play an important role in climate through their scattering and absorption of radiation and interaction with clouds and also through their health effects.  This talk will draw up observations of wildfire smoke made from aircraft and ground-based field observations and also laboratory studies to illustrate key findings over the last decade that have led to advances in our understanding of wildfire smoke and its impacts.  The talk will cover emissions of aerosol particles from wildfires, how transformation in the atmosphere influences the properties of wildfire aerosol and its subsequent effects on aerosols and clouds, and the increasing evidence of the toxicity of wildfire smoke, including outcomes from the recent wildfires on urban Manchester during 2026.

Fika will be served!

Most welcome!
